Frequently asked questions about Bottle Feeding

How do I clean and sterilise baby bottles?
The CDC recommends sterilising bottles before first use and after each use for infants under 3 months, preterm babies, or immunocompromised infants. For healthy older babies, thorough cleaning with hot soapy water, using a bottle brush, is sufficient. Allow to air-dry on a clean rack.
What is paced bottle feeding?
Paced bottle feeding is a technique that slows milk flow to mimic breastfeeding — hold the baby semi-upright, keep the bottle horizontal, and allow pauses. It reduces overfeeding, gas, and the risk of nipple preference in breastfed babies who are also bottle-fed.
When should I move to a faster flow nipple?
Move to a faster flow nipple when your baby shows frustration, sucks hard, or takes much longer to finish feeds than usual. Avoid moving up too early — a flow that is too fast increases choking risk and can lead to overfeeding. Most babies use newborn or slow flow for several months.
