How the covers perform

Fit in standard outlets was firm. The plug did not rattle or come loose from incidental contact. Adult removal with the tab took about one second and required no tools. That is a real improvement over smooth push-in plugs, which require a fingernail and deliberate effort. In three months of testing I found myself more consistently reinserting the Sleeping Lamb covers after outlet use compared with smooth plugs in other rooms, which supports the compliance theory. The 15-month-old touched and pulled at the tab on about five occasions without removing the plug successfully. Older toddlers with stronger grip may have different results.

The real weaknesses

The tab is a tradeoff, not a pure improvement. A toddler who spots the tab and gets curious has a better grip point than a smooth plug offers. I observed this in real time, and while the 15-month-old in our test home could not remove the cover, families with 20-month-old or older toddlers who are persistent and dexterous should weigh this carefully. The removed plug is also larger than a standard push-in plug, but it remains a hard piece in the size range that poses a choking risk. The Sleeping Lamb design does not change the fundamental category. If your child is already pulling at outlet covers, the correct solution is a self-closing plate cover with no removable piece, not a push-in plug with a more convenient tab.

Comparison with rivals

Standard push-in plugs from Safety 1st and PandaEar are harder for adults to remove but harder for toddlers to grip as well. Which tradeoff you prefer depends on your household. Skyla Homes and BSeen self-closing covers eliminate the removable-part problem entirely. They require screwdriver installation and cost more per outlet, but for families with children who are 18 months or older, the self-closing design is the cleaner choice clinically. Sleeping Lamb sits between the two camps: easier for adults than standard plugs, slightly more exposed to toddler grip than smooth-face plugs. It is the right product for a household where the main problem is adult non-compliance with reinsertion, and where the child is still young enough not to exploit the tab reliably.

Who it is for

Sleeping Lamb outlet covers suit households with infants and young toddlers under 16 months where adult convenience is the primary friction point. They are a reasonable upgrade over smooth push-in plugs for caregivers who find themselves forgetting to reinsert covers after outlet use. For children 18 months or older who have shown interest in removing covers, switch to self-closing plate covers. Check all plugs weekly, replace any that feel loose, and confirm your outlets are not already TR-rated before installing any push-in cover.
