Frequently asked questions about Highchairs, Seats & Accessories

When is a baby ready for a high chair?
A baby is developmentally ready for a high chair when they can sit upright with minimal support — typically around 6 months. Starting solid foods before your baby has full head and trunk control increases aspiration risk. Your paediatrician will advise on readiness signs.
What is the safest high chair harness?
A 5-point harness (two shoulder straps, two waist straps, one crotch strap) provides the most secure positioning and prevents the child from slipping out or standing up in the seat. Always ensure the harness is snug — you should not be able to fit more than two fingers between the harness and the child's body.
Can babies eat in a bouncer or swing instead of a high chair?
No. Feeding babies in inclined positions like bouncers, swings, or car seats increases the risk of choking and aspiration. The AAP and feeding therapists recommend an upright, well-supported seated position for all solid food introduction.
